Beyond all question praver is the most essential exercise in a Believer's walk. It is the vehicle of intimacy, in our relationship with God, who is the center and heart of our fellowship.
Prayer is, in a sense, our first duty as a Christian, there never has been and never can be, fellowship without it.

Prayer comes instinctively from the soul. Wherever human life is found, there will be prayer. Only when mankind would seek to oppress and suppress it, does it cease, then only for a season, for in moments of great danger, such as, a sinking ship, amid earthquakes, the horror of war, etc., even atheists call upon God. We find it in all religions as well as our own. The place given to prayer in the Bible is just what we expect it should have. By the word of God, it is the beginning, and middle and end, even so, come Lord Jesus.
"Prayer is the Believer's Vital Breath"
The Believer's native air, as the new-born child cries, and by this cry gives proof that all is well, so the new born Christian prays, and by praying gives proof that he is alive spiritually.
So important a factor is prayer in the Believer's experience, that the history of his progress in the Divine walk is just his story of his progress in his prayer life. Prayer is such a wonderful guage to a man's spiritual condition, a safeguard for his future. I am sure we recognize the source of all Spiritual Life is the Holy Ghost. By Him we are regenerated. It is He that quickens us when we are dead in trespasses and sins. It is He who maintains our spiritual life. There is absolutely no good in us, neither good wrought in us but by the Holy Ghost. Therefore, seeing we depend so much on the Holy Ghost for our Spiritual life, I am sure we are quite prepared to acknowledge that the Holy Spirit has a distinct function in connection with prayer. Therefore, I believe it is our duty to find out what, according to the Scripture, is the relationship of the Holy Ghost to the Believer's prayer, and to what extent we may rely on the Holy Spirit as we draw nigh to God in prayer, and in what manner may we expect His power to be put forth. I feel that this subject is most important for us.
If only we knew what it was to habitually and unceasingly pray in the Holy Ghost, how much sweeter and closer our communion with God and how much greater the power we would manifest.

May the Holy Ghost lead us further in the truth as we continue to study the word of God. Notably the promises.
